This was a worthwhile seminar getting to train with the legends former UFC Heavyweight Champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and former Light Heavyweight Strikeforce Champion Rafael Cavalcante. A great mixture of BJJ, MMA, and Muay Thai.

McCourt Unlucky
Stephen McCourt made his Debut at the EFR show in the Ramble Inn. Stephen was doing well in the first round but the EFR fighter did that bit more to win the round with Stephen coming out and dominating with his standup in the 2nd round. The third round was very close with going to the judges scorecards calling it 2 rounds to EFR fighter and one to Stephen. A very close fight and Stephen will be back!
Brand New Gym, New Classes
We have a whole new matted area added to the gym for MMA, Boxing and conditioning classes, as well as our new matted areas for BJJ and subgrappling. the gym is nearly finished with all the revamps, its looking great. We now have Boxing coach Peter Turley with us taking a boxing and conditioning class on Fridays from 6pm - 7.30pm, all are welcome. Also new BJJ for beginners class on Wednesdays at 6pm also.

Brown Belt Andy Ryan takes Seminar this Sunday
BJJ Brown Belt and 4th Dan Judo Black Belt Andy Ryan (Team Ryano, BJJ Revolution) will be taking a seminar this Sunday at Frames. Andy recently won the European Open in his division and the brown senior absolute. This is defeintly one to get down for. Kyoujin Bangor
Just a reminder that Kyoujin are in Bangor for a Brazilian Ju-jitsu class in Bangor Leisure Centre taken by blue belt and European Bronze Medalist Colin Laird. This will be a fundamentals class and everyone is welcome. Classes are on Wednesdays from 7.30pm to 9.00pm.

European BJJ Open
A great result for Irish BJJ competitors in the European BJJ open in Portugal. The Irish took home several medals with our own Peter Lavery taking home Silver in the Purple Belt over 40's. A great result for all the Irish who went over and competed and a big thanks for those who showed their support. Congrats to everyone.

Clark Gracie Seminar
Thanks to everyone who attended the Clark Gracie Seminar and a big thank you to Clark himself. Clark Gracie was born in California into the “World renowned Gracie Family” Currently a Brown Belt, Clark has lived both in the San Francisco bay area and Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, and trained under his father, Carley Gracie (8th degree Red-and-Black Belt and Professional National Champion from 1969-1972). Clark's is the grandson of Carlos Gracie, creator of the art known today as “Gracie or Brazillian Jiu Jitsu.”

Congratulations to all the guys that took part in the Dublin Open. Everyone did really well with Joe Baker taking home Gold in the 88kg, Claire Craig taking Gold in the Ladies Absolute, Colin Laird taking Silver in the 100kg, and Myles Sheridan in 88kg. Well done to the rest of the guys for competing, a great turnout and success for Kyoujin.
New Gym Now Open
As of Monday 3rd August we have moved to a new gym. We are still located in Frames but on the second floor. It should be mentioned that without the help of Peter, Joe and Ciaran we still wouldn't be down there. A big thanks to the guys for taking the time to move all the gear down and set everything up. Carlson Gracie Jr. Seminar
On Sunday 20th of September Carlson Gracie Jr will be holding a seminar in Andy Ryans gym in Dublin. As you all know,we are part of the Carlson Gracie team under Rodrigo Mederios so this will be an oportunity to train with the son of one of the originators of BJJ. Carlson Jr is the only son of the legendary Carlson Gracie, Sr. and the grandson of the founder of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Carlos Gracie, Sr.
Carlson began training under his father at the age of 3 and currently holds a 5th degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu directly under his late father as well as a black belt in Judo.
Before moving to the United States, Carlson was instructing full time in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Carlson Jr. has won 10 Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Championships in numerous tournaments in Brazil, 6 Greco-Roman wrestling championships. This is set to be a great seminar and no doubt places will go fast, give Peter a shout asap and register your interest!
Baker to Make MMA debut
Joe Baker steps into the cage this Friday 10th July for the first time. He will represent Kyoujin at "Fight NIght 3" in the Abbey hotel in Donegal. Doors open at 8.30pm and its €20. You can pay at the door. Come along and support Joe in his first outing. All the best from the Kyoujin team.
Purple Belt Awarded
Kyoujin are proud to announce that Peter Lavery has been awarded a purple belt in BJJ. Peter was handed his belt by Rodrigo at the seminar on Saturday 4th July 2009.
Rodrigo Medeiros Seminar
BJJ Ireland will play host to a Rodrigo Medeiros seminar, the head of BJJ Revolution, this Friday 3rd July and Saturday 4th July. This will be a great weekend session and its recommended that all Kyoujin members attend. Can you contact Peter as soon as possible to confirm your attendance so numbers and lifts can be arranged.

The Black Eagle Gi will be used as standard uniform in both gyms, in addition Peter and Andy will be promoting the brand at various tournaments and events. This achievement is testament to the standard of BJJ that is taught at both gyms, and the life long detication to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu given by Andy and Peter.
Jude Samuel Seminar
Gracie Barra blackbelt Jude Samuel will be hosting a seminar on the 29th and 30th of this month at the valley leisure centre.
The session starts on friday at 7:30 and saturday at 2:15 and are £10 per night.
Jude is a really good instructor and will benefit everyone. This will be a gi session.
Inter club sub grappling tournament
The tournament is to start around 1:00 at the Kaizen club in Merville.
The preliminary bouts will be of 2 minutes duration with scoring as follows:
WIN - 3 POINTS
DRAW - 1 POINT
LOSS - 0 POINTS
The time limit will increase to 3 minutes all being well as the session progresses. We are trying to assure all competitors of at least 2 fights during the day.
The session will cost £5 and is open to all levels of student so dont be thinking that you have not been traiing long enough.
Belfast Relay Marathon
Well done to the guys from Kyoujin that took part in the charity marathon in Belfast. Peter Lavery, Colin Laird, Tim McCrory, Michael Rosbotham, Peter O'Loughlin, Chri McGrath and Myles Sheridan all took part and ran a section of the marathon. They completed it in 4 hours 8 minutes. Great effort from all those involved, and a big thanks to Colin for sorting it all out and making sure a team was put in! If you haven't handed in your sponorship money yet, give it to Colin as soon as possible.
Seminar a Great Sucess
Thanks to everyone that attended the Seminar on Sunday. Chris spent the first half of the day covering the bottom game showing various locks. After a short break he continued with the top game. Covering the guard pass to submissions. Chris is a great guy and I'm sure all those that attended will agree that they will be able to include everything shown in their own game, in a fight or in a submission tournament. Kyoujin would like to thank Chris and David for their hard work and ensuring the seminar was a sucess. We would also like to thank Peter who organised the whole thing!
